New Delhi: The father of the 15-year-old who accused self-styled godman Asaram of sexually assaulting her in his ashram in Jodhpur has said that he wants the ‘baba’ behind bars.
The father of the victim said “The baba took my daughter to his private quarters in Jodhpur asharam to perform some ritual to ward off evil spirit. Then he assaulted her.”
A regular contributor to Asaram Bapu’s trust, the father says he had taken his daughter to the spiritual leader as she had been unwell. He said we were told she is under some magical spell which baba can resolve by performing religious rites. When we went to the asharam, ‘He did not let us inside the room. He tried to silence her...told her ‘my gunmen are outside, be quiet or they will kill you and your parents’.
The family claims they have been receiving threatening calls from Asaram’s men, and have been threatened by officials to keep the matter under wraps, but they are determined to fight it for their daughter’s honour.
In her statement to the police, the girl said the 72-year-old yoga guru tried to force himself on her and threatened to hurt her and her family if she dared to reveal what happened. The father said, his daughter was scared to reveal the truth and told the incident to her mother when we reached home on Aug 19.
Meanwhile, Asaram Bapu sought more time from the Jodhpur police for appearing before it for
questioning.
