New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha on Wednesday moved a breach of privilege notice against Defence minister A K Antony in the Parliament for his statement on Tuesday on the killings of five Indian jawans at LoC, even as the defence ministry did a U-turn on its earlier statement on the killings.
Antony had said on Tuesday that the ambush at LoC was carried out by 20 heavily armed terrorists along with persons dressed in Pakistani uniforms.
Antony had said on Tuesday that the ambush at LoC was carried out by 20 heavily armed terrorists along with persons dressed in Pakistani uniforms.
On the other hand, the army had clearly said that soldiers of Pak army (and not persons dressed in Pak army uniform) and terrorists had carried out the operation. However, the army issued a fresh press release in Srinagar withdrawing its earlier press release. The new press release is identical with the statement Antony had made in Parliament on Tuesday.
The issue of killings at the LoC figured in both the Houses with Opposition leaders attacking the government for the flip-flop. In Rajya Sabha, the opposition forced an adjournment on the issue. Moving the privilege
motion, Sinha said that while Indian army had made it clear on Tuesday that Pakistani soldiers were involved in the ambush, the Defence Minister had given Pakistan an escape route to defend its dastardly act.
Sinha termed the Defence Minister’s statement “the most laughable”. Attacking Antony, he said: “He has misled the country & because of his statement Army was forced to change its statement. After his statement it seems as if he (AK Antony) is on the Pakistan Army’s side.”
