Patna: Before he was caught in a joint operation by the intelligence agencies and Bihar police from the Indo-Nepal border, Indian Mujahideen (IM) co-founder Yasin Bhatkal destroyed the lives of several Bihar youth, making Mithilanchal a safe hideout. His grip on his network on the border areas was so strong that he could have got executed anything he wanted.
On the trail of various blasts, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had arrested many terrorists. It came to be known that Yasin had a deep connection with Bihar, especially Mithilanchal, having made Jamalchak village under Mabbi police station in Darbhanga district his earliest hideout. To some he was ‘Imran’, to others it was ‘Dr Saheb’, plotting attacks and recruiting innocent youth, many of whom never met him directly. IM operative Kafeel used to introduce them to Yasin. It was corroborated after Kafeel’s arrest, as confirmed by police station in-charge S.K. Chowdhary. Yasin’s other hideout was at Samaila village under Kewati block in Darbhanga district. He continued to dodge police amid arrests of so many IM operatives from poverty-stricken Mithilanchal -- which he seemed to make his own recruiting youths in hordes -- especially from Madhubanmi since 2006 namely Md Kamal Ansari, Md Madani, Md Afzal, Guel Ahmed Jamali, Qateel Siddiqui, Nadim Naqqi, Kafeel Ahmed and Fasih Masood.
While investigating agencies zeroed in on Mithilanchal, Bihar cadre IPS officer Vikas Vaibhav used his expertise on the IM network after he joined the NIA, resulting in the arrest of Danish in January 2013 from Laheriasarai. Danish’s arrest helped the NIA make a list of 36 terrorists. Danish told the cops that Md Tahsim alias Monu from Samastipur had introduced him to IM kingpin Yasin in Delhi. Tahsim told Danish he would help him get a seat in an engineering college. This was one of the many ploys Yasin ans his aides used to lure youths into the bad business.
