Antony U-turn on LoC killings | Breaking news in India

New Delhi: Two days after making his controversial statement that terrorists dressed in Pak uniforms killed five Indian jawans near the Line of Control in the Poonch sector, Defence Minister A K Antony did a U-turn and said that specialist troops of Pakistani army were involved in the attack. Antony said in the Lok Sabha that attack was not possible without the support of the Pakistani army.
The Opposition had been disrupting both Houses of Parrliament for the last two days over Antony’s remark, alleging that the Defence Minister was giving an escape route to Pakistan for the dastardly and cowardly act of its troops.Antony said that based on an on-the-spot assessment by Army Chief General Bikram Singh, it was clear that the attack was carried out by Pakistani army regulars.
The Defence Minister said that Pakistan should not take India’s restraint over the attacks for granted. The Defence Ministry has changed its statements over the attacks thrice in the last couple of days. On Wednesday, even as Antony gave a statement in the Lok Sabha about terrorists dressed in Pak army uniform involved in the attack, the army contradicted the minister saying Pakistani troops were involved in the killings.
But the army was forced to retract its statement and modify it in accordance with the Defence Minister’s statement on terrorists in Pak uniform. Now Antony has further effected a change in Defence Ministry’s statement saying that Pak troops were involved. Antony also said that the government will review its policy along the LoC and that Pakistan should show action against the culprits. Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj welcomed the changed statement of Antony and said that the BJP will not play politics over the nation’s security.
