UP Thakurs oppose ‘Rajnath Singh for PM’ - Breaking news in India

New Delhi: BJP president Rajnath Singh is facing revolt from Uttar Pradesh Thakurs. At a recent meeting of Thakurs held at the residence of Samajwadi Party MP from Kaisarganj Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, a former BJP leader, Singh’s name was proposed for the prime ministerial candidate. However, the move was scuttled by BJP MLA from Nurpur Lokendra Singh.
In fact, at the meeting it was proposed that UP Thakurs must rise above party affiliations to root for Singh, who is a prominent “face of Thakurs” in  the state.
However, Lokendra said that whenever Singh has been in power, he has ignored Thakurs. That opened a can of worms, with SP MLA Raja Bhaiyya arguing he had staked his career by supporting Rajnath Singh, and ending up antagonising senior BJP leader Kalyan Singh and BSP supremo Mayawati.
The Kunda MLA said all this created a situation, where he had to go behind bars, but Singh never cared to visit him in the jail.
The meeting was attended by various stalwarts cutting across party lines, including Congress leader Jagdambika Pal, BJP MP from Gorakhpur Adityanath, Azamgarg MLC Jaswant Singh and Dhananjay Singh. It was also said the SP government has been humiliating Thakurs and that many Thakurs have had to pay for this, some of them losing ministerial posts. Those who have fallen victims include, Raja Bhaiyya, Raja Mahendra Aridaman Singh, Rajkishore Singh and Anand Singh, it was said.
When Thakurs suggested a sustained campaign against the Akhilesh Yadav-led state  government, Jaswant Singh advised against this, saying it is time to reap the harvest of installing the Samajwadi Party government, for which they had no left no stone unturned. His view was welcomed by all, who also said the Thakurs make up for 60 MPs in the 15th Lok Sabha. Recently, Singh was riding high on astrologers ‘prediction that his stars were acendant and that a victory for him was inevitable.
