Police summon Asaram by Aug 30-Breaking news in India

Jodhpur: Tough times lie ahead of Asaram Bapu, who has been accused of sexually assaulting a minor girl in his ashram in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

Breaking news in India

The police on Monday summoned the self-styled godman for questioning giving him a deadline of August 30 as its investigations corroborated the complainant’s accusations.

In the coming days, Asaram may have to face punishment under some of the stringent Sections of the IPC.

Contrary to the media reports, the Jodhpur Police said it has not revoked Section 376 (rape) against Asaram as it was inducted by the Delhi Police in its FIR. Even the Delhi Police issued a statement mentioning that the victim’s medical examination suggests that she had been sexually assaulted and hence the godman was charged with Section 376.

“We have not revoked the Section 376 from the FIR,” Ajay Pal Lamba, DCP Jodhpur, told this newspaper.    It appears that the Jodhpur Police will not remove the section from the FIR and leave it for the court to decide as the matter is sensitive in nature.

If police sources are to be believed, the charges made by the victim have been established against Asaram. The police said that a notice was sent to Asaram Bapu, asking him to appear for questioning in connection with a sexual assault case.
