New Delhi: Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan on Friday said that the country doesn’t need IAS officers and that 1.25 crore people were more than capable to run the nation.
While talking to reporters, Khan said that IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal’s suspension case has been blown out of proportion by the media.
He said that there were several officials suspended in the past from magistrate level to engineers but not a single line was published in the media and they went unnoticed. He said that such suspensions are routine in nature.
The SP leader further added that while the IAS officials are few in numbers, country’s 1.25 crore population is more than capable to run the country.
“This is a British system. They had introduced it but they themselves are not using it. Be it China, Europe, America, Japan or the Gulf, this system exists nowhere. Why? Is it only these people (IAS officers) who are just 2000, 3000 or 10000 in number who can run the country? Is the population of over 125 crore illiterate, incapable or fools? They can also run the country,” he said.
Khan added that the Britishers had introduced this system in India and even they are not complying with it today in their country.
The UP leader also took a dig at Congress president Sonia Gandhi, saying that Congress has reduced its level as its chief is now writing letters in transfer cases.
Last week, Congress president Sonia Gandhi had written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, demanding justice for Nagpal. “We must ensure that the officer is not unfairly treated,” she had written to the PM.
