Cops may issue lookout notice against Asaram

Indore: The Jodhpur police on Tuesday arrived at Asaram Bapu’s ashram in Indore, Madhya Pradesh to issue summons to the godman in connection with the sexual assault case filed against him. However, Asaram refused to accept the summons and his supporters told the police to leave.


Sources said that the police might issue a lookout notice against the self style godman. Once the notice is issued, Asaram will not be allowed to travel anywhere abroad.


The spiritual guru has been asked to appear before police on 30 August where he would be questioned over the sexual assault allegations leveled against him by a minor girl.The self-styled godman claimed that he was innocent and regards the minor as his “daughter”. His spokesman also denied the charges against him.


Asaram has been booked under sections 376, 342, 506 and 509 of the IPC, section 8 of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and sections 23 and 26 of the Juvenile Justice Act.In the coming days, Asaram may have to face punishment under some of the stringent Sections of the IPC.


Contrary to the media reports, the Jodhpur Police said it has not revoked Section 376 (rape) against Asaram as it was inducted by the Delhi Police in its FIR.
