Breaking news in India - BJP biggies in exit mode

New Delhi: Several BJP biggies want to change their existing Lok Sabha seats in the 2014 elections despite the party’s claim that there is a sentiment in favour of its poster boy Narendra Modi.

Topping the list of those who want to try their luck from a different seat is L.K. Advani. The BJP patriarch’s camp feels that Gandhinagar is no longer a safe seat for him, now that Advani has taken on Modi.
Sources say Advani could consider Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s invitation to contest from Bhopal, but the only problem is that the sitting MP, Kailash Joshi is not keen to vacate the seat.
Consequently, Advani could try his luck from Vidisha, a BJP stronghold. But that would require leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj to look for a safe seat. There is a possibility that Swaraj could contest from Faridabad in Haryana or from a Delhi seat.
Sources say Bhagalpur MP Shahnawaz Hussain has joined the list of seat hoppers after an internal survey predicted doom for him. The survey says it will
be an uphill task for
the BJP to win from Bhagalpur in the light of the party’s divorce from the JD(U). Hussain wants to contest from Araria, which has a sizeable Muslim population. He hopes that his close associate Pradip Singh Gangai will vacate the seat for him.
BJP president Rajnath Singh, who won from Ghaziabad in 2009, is also planning to change his constituency. Last time, the BJP’s tie-up with Ajit Singh’s Rashtriya Lok Dal yielded en block Jat votes for the party. But now the RLD is part of the UPA. Rajnath could either shift to the neighbouring Noida, which has sizeable Thakur votes, or to Lucknow.
Others who could change their seats include Maneka Gandhi (back to Pilibhit), Varun (from Pilibhit to Sultanpur), Rajiv Pratap Rudy (from Saran to East Delhi) and Navjot Singh
Sidhu (from Amritsar to West Delhi).
