Suspended UP SSP threatens victims

Moradabad: Lawlessness seems to have become an everyday feature in Uttar Pradesh. Moradabad SSP Rajesh D Modak, who had recently been suspended for assaulting three of his juniors for keeping a Samajwadi Party leader waiting, has now been accused of threatening them.
Asha, Deepa and Hema, the wives of Modak’s assault victims, approached Moradabad DIG Amrendra Sengar and complained that their husbands had been put in “house arrest” by the SSP’s men. They even accused Modak of threatening them of dire consequences in case they did not follow his instructions. “A 24x 7 police vigil has been ordered by the SSP and our day-to-day movement has been restricted,” complained the ladies.
When this correspondent visited one of the victim Sunder Singh’s house in Police Lines area, he discovered that the official had been house arrested and was not allowed to step out of the main gate of his premises.
Sunder’s family members said that their mobile phones had been confiscated and that the police officers present outside their house do not even let them visit a doctor.
While the misery of the victims continues, the state police and the administration appear least bothered about the law and order situation. Despite repeated efforts, the Moradabad DIG refused to comment on the matter.
