New Delhi: The Shiv Sena on Friday said that it would support Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as BJP’s prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
The assurance from Sena came after party supremo Uddhav Thackeray had a telephonic conversation with the Gujarat Chief minister on Thursday night.
Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut said that the party has decided to support Modi or any other person who is put forth by the BJP as prime ministerial candidate. “Yesterday Uddhav ji talked to Modi ji and congratulated him. We will welcome if Modi is declared PM candidate,” Raut said.
At a time when the BJP poster boy is facing tough opposition from within his party, Uddhav’s backing me prove to be a blessing for him.
Meanwhile, the Congress accused the RSS of forcing a decision on BJP over declaring Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate.
After a go-ahead from RSS, BJP has decided to hold a meeting of its Parliamentary Board on Friday on the issue of declaring Modi as the PM candidate for 2014 Lok Sabha polls despite opposition from L.K. Advani and some other senior leaders.
Reacting to it, Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari alleged in a tweet post, “A Nagpur-based shadowy cabal of unaccountable geriatric gentlemen in period attire can ram decisions down BJP’s throat and call it internal democracy.”
