Jodhpur: A Jodhpur court on Wednesday rejected the bail plea of self-styled godman Asaram Bapu in connection with the sexual assault case involving a minor girl.
While the defence in its arguments said that the girl was not a minor as her date of birth was not
mentioned on the certificate, the prosecution argued that the godman may tamper with evidence if granted bail.
The prosecuting lawyer also said that Asaram’s supporters have already threatened the victim’s family members.
The prosecution said that the investigating officer has received life threats and it signals that the case is very sensitive in nature.
The defence even appealed to the court to grant bail to the godman on health ground, but in vain. Asaram’s lawyer said that the defence would study the order and would approach the high court on Thursday for his bail.
